Support the Family of Fallen NYPD Officer Didarul Islam
The Issue
On Monday, Officer Didarul Islam—a father, husband, son, and public servant—was shot and killed while working off duty in Midtown Manhattan. He died a hero, stepping in to protect others during the deadliest mass shooting New York City has seen in over two decades.
Officer Islam, 36, was a proud immigrant from Bangladesh and had served in the NYPD’s 47th precinct for over three years. He was remembered as a man of deep faith, compassion, and courage. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called him a hero who “died as he lived”—putting himself in harm’s way to protect others. Mayor Eric Adams met with his grieving family and said Officer Islam “embodies what this city is all about.”
He leaves behind two young sons and a wife pregnant with their third child. His family is now left to mourn an unthinkable loss—just months before welcoming a new life into the world.
The NYPD said it best: “We will forever honor his legacy.” But honoring his legacy means more than words. It means action.
We are calling on Mayor Adams, the NYPD, and New York State leaders to guarantee full survivor benefits, long-term financial support, and trauma counseling for Officer Islam’s family. This petition also calls for the creation of a permanent memorial in his honor—so that his courage and sacrifice are remembered for generations.
Didarul Islam was beloved by his neighbors and respected by his fellow officers. He served with integrity and gave his life in service to others. We owe it to him—and to his children—to stand up now.
Please sign and share this petition to demand real, lasting support for the family of Officer Didarul Islam. Let’s make sure his sacrifice is never forgotten.
