Support the Development of the Union County Rail Trail with Gravel Surface

Support the Development of the Union County Rail Trail with Gravel Surface
The Issue
My dream has always been to see a flourishing rail trail in Union County. Such a trail would function as an excellent connector of our communities and promote healthier, greener alternatives to conventional transportation. This is the same vision many of my fellow citizens share.
Key Reasons for Supporting the Rail Trail with Gravel Surface:
• Improved Health: A gravel surface is gentler on joints, making the trail more accessible for runners and walkers of all ages, reducing the risk of injuries.
• Safety: Soft surfaces like gravel are less abrasive than asphalt, reducing the likelihood of falls and providing better traction for various outdoor activities.
• Environmental Benefits: Gravel surfaces are more sustainable, require less maintenance, and are generally less harmful to the environment compared to asphalt.
• Community Benefits: Similar successful projects in neighboring counties, including the West Essex Trail, Columbia Trail, Union Transportation Trail, and Delaware Raritan Canal Rail Trail, demonstrate the positive impact of these types of trails on local communities
We ask the Union County government to prioritize the development of this rail trail with a gravel surface, creating a trail that will benefit residents, promote physical activity, and support a healthier, safer, more connected Union County!
