Support the CMHR exhibit 'Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present'
The Issue
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) has taken a significant step in acknowledging the historical and ongoing struggles faced by Palestinians with its upcoming exhibit titled "Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present."
https://humanrights.ca/exhibition/palestine-uprooted-nakba-past-and-present
This exhibit, scheduled to open in June 2026, promises to shed light on the historical events surrounding the Nakba, its lasting impact on Palestinian communities, and its relevance in today's world.
The Nakba, translated as "catastrophe," refers to the mass displacement of Palestinians that began in 1948. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people were forced to leave their homes, resulting in a humanitarian crisis that reverberates through generations. By displaying this exhibit, the CMHR is committing to educating the public and raising awareness about these critical human rights issues.
Certain powerful groups have petitioned to halt this exhibit for not consulting with them. They are concerned that the information may be incomplete or unbalanced.
As concerned Canadian citizens (with no ties to either side), we have reached out to world renowned scholars, authors, professors on the subject to introduce them to the CMHR to consult and ensure accuracy and completeness of the exhibit in an unbiased manner.
(UPDATE Nov 29: We have received confirmation from one expert so far.)
Understanding the past is crucial in addressing current global human rights challenges. It could act as a bridge to better understanding between diverse communities and possibly inspire solutions rooted in mutual respect and coexistence.
However, with such powerful agencies attempting to halt the exhibit, successfully launching this exhibit requires more than just good intentions. It needs broad-based support from the public and advocacy from individuals and organizations united in the pursuit of justice and human rights.
We urge supporters of freedom, equality, and human dignity to come together to support this initiative. By signing this petition, you will be endorsing an effort that promotes education on vital historical human rights events and facilitates informed discussions on present-day issues. Let’s join hands to ensure that this important exhibit reaches as many people as possible and contributes to a brighter future founded on peace and understanding.
Sign this petition to stand with the CMHR and support the "Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present" exhibit.
