Support the Child Protection Compact Act of 2010!

Dana Liebelson

Washington, DC, United States
Created October 1, 2010

The Issue

Each year, hundreds of thousands of children become victims of exploitation. For those affected by sexual and commercial trafficking, the psychological and physical effects can be devastating. Victims of sexual abuse suffer from sexually transmitted diseases, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder. Victims of commercial trafficking have severe back or respiratory problems and depression. To this extent, eradicating child trafficking must be placed at the top of the national political agenda.

S. 3184, the Child Protection Compact Act, aims to address these problems abroad by targeting child trafficking in specific "focus countries." These countries will receive assistance in building judicial systems that investigate trafficking crimes, and prosecute those responsible. The act will also increase financial support for care of victims.

We need your support! That act is moving to the Senate for a full vote. Please write to your local senator and urge him or her to co-sponsor this bill.
