My family and I are deeply invested in Hope Family Village, a passionate endeavor aiming to create a shared living space for those managing the challenges of mental health. The proposed Cardinal Ridge project sets aside 25 acres to create an innovative cohousing community to support caregiving families and their loved ones, as providing over 200 affordable apartments  in James City County. 

Affordable housing is a pressing issue in our community—an invaluable need that cannot be overlooked. With the rising costs of living, many families are struggling to find financially viable homes, making projects like Cardinal Ridge not only beneficial but necessary. This development promises to offer safe, affordable living spaces for countless families, ensuring that economic barriers do not hinder stable, safe, and supportive environments.

Moreover, the Cardinal Ridge project is set to offer essential backing for two mental health organizations, enriching the well-being and resilience of individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Mental health services are often underfunded and overstretched, yet they are critical in helping individuals lead fulfilling lives. By supporting these organizations, the project will bolster much-needed resources that can change lives and offer hope to many. It also addresses longstanding environmental issues located on this property and is the redevelopment of an area of Eastern State that is crumbling and neglected. A large portion of the property is already cleared of trees, but has old buildings filled with lead and asbestos as well as underground steam tunnels. This project will remove those structures and repurpose the property.
