The Middlemarch Railway Station and precinct, located in Middlemarch, New Zealand, is an important piece of our local and national heritage.  We believe it is essential to protect this piece of history for future generations by having it recognised as a Heritage listed site.

Built in 1891, the Middlemarch railway station was a significant station on the Otago Central Railway. It played a valuable role in the economic development of the Otago region, removing the barriers of isolation.  The precinct surrounding the station has many original features, such as the sidings, the semaphore signal, the goods shed, the loading bank, the station master's house and the turn table.  It is New Zealand’s only surviving example of the Vogel class 3 station.

 The Middlemarch Railway station is an important feature of Middlemarch, located in the heart of the township, and it is the final station on the Central  Otago Rail Trail.  It is potentially accessible to steam engines, railcars and diesel trains.  Securing  a Heritage listing will enhance the importance of this precinct, which is already appreciated by railway enthusiasts. The Clyde railway station, and the Dunedin Railway Station both have Heritage status.
