Support statues at new Quincy Public Safety Headquarters
The Issue
My personal story intersects with the cause at hand in a way that resonates deeply. As a veteran, former public defender, and a descendant of a brave firefighter lost to the Coconut Grove tragedy, I've come to understand the profound significance of those who commit their lives to keep the rest of us safe. The proposed statues at the new Quincy Public Safety Headquarters symbolize much more than mere commemoration. They embody the eternal struggle between good and evil and humanity's ceaseless battle with natural disasters.
In the United States, approximately 1.1 million firefighters, both career and voluntary, risk their lives to serve the community in 2018 (National Fire Protection Association, 2019). Similarly, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, over 800,000 sworn police personnel constitute our law enforcement's frontline, endeavoring day and night to keep us safe. This hard truth makes the representations even more soberly fitting.
The placement of these statues not only honors the bravery and resilience of our local heroes but also becomes a rallying point for our community, symbolizing our solidarity and respect for their sacrifices. This cause transcends personal interests and extends to the wider wellbeing of our society.
When we advocate for statues of heroes, we ensure their stories and sacrifices are never forgotten. Please, stand with us in this cause and honor those who, in their service, embody humanity's most admirable qualities. Sign this petition and support the placement of these two statues at the new Quincy Public Safety Headquarters.
