The Issue

In a time when countless pubs across the UK are closing, having a well-run, welcoming, community-focused pub like the Eagle & Crown in Upton Village is vital. Shirley and Cliff, our esteemed licensee and partner, have dedicated their time and effort in to nurturing this establishment, making it not just a pub, but the heart of our community. The Eagle & Crown is more than just a venue for food and drink; it is a cherished social hub where friendships are forged, celebrations are held, and community spirit thrives.

The decision by the Merseyside authorities to dismiss Shirley and Cliff from their positions is not only deeply unfair, but it strikes at the very core of what makes our village community special. Under their stewardship, the Eagle & Crown has flourished into a welcoming environment for everyone. It prides itself on being dog-friendly and a haven for families and friends alike. Losing Shirley and Cliff would be more than merely losing two individuals; it would be losing the warmth and passion that have made this pub a beloved community asset.

They have not just served us drinks, they have served our community with support and dedication. Their efforts have transformed the pub into a pivotal part of Upton Village, aiding in community initiatives and fostering an inclusive environment for all.

If we don't stand together now, we risk seeing another pivotal local staple disappear, leaving our village with yet another unfilled void. Our community cannot afford to lose the positive force that Shirley and Cliff bring to Upton Village.

We urge the Merseyside authorities to reconsider their decision and allow Shirley and Cliff to continue their outstanding work, strengthening our community ties and supporting a diverse and inclusive space for all.

Stand with us in supporting Shirley and Cliff, not just for what they have done, but for what they can continue to achieve for our beloved Eagle & Crown Pub and our vibrant community. The time to act is now. Please sign this petition and let your voice be heard.
