The issue

Mount Helena, Chidlow, and Sculpture Park have always been our sanctuaries—places where families, carers, and residents can gather, share laughter, and revel in the beauty of nature. As a parent and community member, I've cherished the happy memories made under the clear sky with my loved ones. But as temperatures rise, what once were pleasant outings have become challenges under the harsh sun, limiting our ability to enjoy these spaces.

Our beloved parks face a serious issue. Throughout the hotter months, the soaring temperatures and limited shade transform playgrounds and seating areas into uncomfortable, and sometimes dangerous, places. Parents hesitate, carers worry, and everyone is mindful of the intense sun exposure, which often forces us indoors. This is a serious barrier to outdoor accessibility for all, yet it's a problem with a viable solution.

We are urging the Shire of Mundaring to take action by considering the installation of shade sails at key playgrounds and community spaces within our parks. This solution is both simple and effective. Shade sails are designed to provide ample coverage from the sun, allowing these areas to remain safe and comfortable during peak temperatures. By introducing shade sails, we can transform these spaces into welcoming and usable environments all year round.

Shade sails have been successfully implemented in countless other communities facing similar issues with extreme sunlight. Local governments have seen positive responses with reductions in UV exposure and increased park usage. They stand as a testament to the benefits of protecting our outdoor areas for the enjoyment of all citizens.

Join me in advocating for the health, safety, and enjoyment of our local parks. This change not only supports the well-being of our families but also encourages a more vibrant, active community. By signing this petition, we can work together to ensure our parks remain the heart of our community—accessible and enjoyable spaces for everyone, no matter the season.

Let's make our voices heard and protect the places we love. Sign this petition and support the installation of shade sails in Mount Helena, Chidlow, and Sculpture Park today.
