Jane Cope started this petition to Councillor Ian Ward (Head Councillor, Birmingham City Council) and

Druids Heath was promised regeneration. Following a weak consultation; the council are now proceeding with their own development plan. Phase one, the residents of five tower blocks are being cleared and displaced. Then three to four years later the council plan to develop on the land. This is not regeneration but gentrification, which will break up the community and cause individual hardship to many.

Work with the community on a regeneration plan that is staged. Developing new homes on land already available. Then clearing the tower blocks allowing those who wish to stay to take up a tenancy of one of the new homes, before demolishing the blocks. Involving residents in a community led regeneration for the rest of the estate.

I started this petition because I am the acting chairperson of Druids Heath and Monyhull Forum. I am also a council tenant living in close proximity to the tower blocks. During the original survey done by Birmingham City Council I was told my home would be demolished. I have lived on a council estate for over 20 years. For me, this news was the last time I was going to have something done to me and my family. This time I want to have a say and I want the community to have a say.
