The Issue

Having worked in health and social care for 16 years, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible impact, passion, and dedication of those in this vital sector. I've seen how social care can transform lives, allowing people to remain at home, surrounded by family, instead of in hospitals. I've watched individuals with disabilities acquire new skills that have fundamentally changed their lives. This is what social care is about – making people's lives better.

However, social care services in the UK are faltering under immense financial pressure, low wages, and significant recruitment challenges. The long-awaited Casey Review, which seeks to address these issues, will not be implemented until at least 2028. That's too long to wait when the needs are urgent and present now. Care providers need immediate support to ensure that quality and safe care is accessible to everyone in need.

The ongoing underfunding and undervaluation of social care workers is unacceptable. These professionals are not only grossly underpaid, but they also face difficult working conditions, impacting both their well-being and the quality of care they can provide.

We need interim solutions to support care providers while waiting for the comprehensive reforms that the Casey Review promises. This includes increasing funding, improving pay, enhancing training and recruitment efforts, and ensuring adequate resources reach the front lines where they're most needed.

Join me in calling on policymakers to take immediate, actionable steps to support social care services. Together, we can ensure that everyone in the UK has access to the high-quality, safe care they deserve, both now and in the future.

Please sign the petition to show your support for the dedicated workers and individuals who depend on social care.
