The City of Akron is facing an important moment with the upcoming City Council At-Large vacancy following Jeff Fusco’s resignation. This decision is more than filling a seat—it is about choosing leadership that is experienced, prepared, and ready to serve our community from day one.
We, the undersigned, respectfully call for the appointment of Former Ward 5 Councilwoman Tara Mosley Weems to this position.
Tara Mosley Weems has already demonstrated a deep and unwavering commitment to the people of Akron through ten years of service on City Council. Her leadership has consistently focused on transparency, accountability, and improving the quality of life for residents across our city.
During her time in office, she has:
Led efforts to bring live streaming to City Council meetings, increasing transparency and public trust
Introduced legislation to protect election workers during a time of rising threats nationwide
Supported body-worn camera initiatives to strengthen accountability in public safety
Co-sponsored FLOCK camera legislation to enhance community safety efforts
Advanced housing legislation to hold negligent landlords accountable and protect residents
These accomplishments represent just a portion of her work. Her record reflects action, results, and a clear understanding of how to navigate city government effectively.
Today, Tara continues to serve the community as a Court Navigator, working directly with individuals and families, connecting them to resources, and addressing real challenges faced by Akron residents every day. She also has a nonprofit dedicated to providing services in the community.  

Tara remains on the front lines, bringing both compassion and practical experience to her work.
This is not a new beginning for Tara; it is a continuation of a lifetime of service.
