Shammas Malik is an American politician and lawyer currently serving as the 63rd Mayor of Akron, Ohio. He was sworn in on January 1, 2024. Malik was born and raised in Northwest Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Firestone High School and went on to earn degrees from The Ohio State University and Harvard Law School. Prior to becoming mayor, Malik served as the city councilor of Ward 8 from January 1, 2020, until November 7, 2023, and as an Assistant Director of Law for the city24. As mayor, Malik is focused on public safety, education, economic opportunity, housing, health, and the environment. He is prioritizing communications, transparency, and public engagement in all of his initiatives
