As an aspiring healthcare professional and a student in occupational therapy, I understand the significance of equal employment opportunities for all, including those with disabilities and veterans who have served our country.

It is with this conviction and passion for fairness that I am urging the legislature to pass Bill A00441. This pivotal piece of legislation seeks to enhance employment prospects for individuals with disabilities and veterans. They often face various challenges in gaining and maintaining meaningful employment, yet they boast the potential to make meaningful contributions to our workplaces.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment-population ratio for persons with a disability was 19.3 percent in 2019, compared to 66.3 percent for persons without a disability. This reveals a stark imbalance that must be addressed. Furthermore, only 37% of the workforce is occupied by veterans with disabilities. 

The passage of Bill A00441 will bring us closer to a society that acknowledges and values the abilities and service of these individuals.
