Support Outdoor Play Facilities for Middle School-Aged Children at Ridgewood Middle School

The Issue

We, the undersigned parents, guardians, and community members of Ridgewood Middle School in West Lafayette, Ohio, recognize the critical importance of outdoor play in our children's physical, psychological, and social development. We are deeply concerned about the lack of appropriate outdoor playground facilities for our middle school-aged students and are calling on the school board to take immediate action.

We are asking the school board to create a sub-committee to:

  • Assess the Needs: Conduct research to identify the specific outdoor play recommendations for middle school-aged children at Ridgewood Middle School, including the types of equipment and spaces that would best support their development.
  • Analyze Costs: Undertake a comprehensive cost analysis, exploring potential funding sources, grants, and community partnerships that could assist in the installation and maintenance of inclusive playground equipment.
  • Ensure Inclusivity: Design playground facilities accessible to all children, including those with disabilities, to foster an environment where every child can participate in play and social interaction.

Research shows that outdoor play offers numerous benefits, including improved physical fitness, reduced stress, enhanced cognitive function, and better social skills. Inclusive playgrounds are essential for ensuring that children of all abilities can enjoy these benefits, promoting a sense of belonging and community for everyone.

By adding your name to this petition, you show your support for creating an inclusive, safe, and stimulating outdoor play environment at Ridgewood Middle School, which will contribute to the overall well-being and educational success of our students.
