Stop Attacking Our Hispanic Heritage!

The Issue

Stop the Eradication of Our Hispanic Heritage!

A small, but vocal, radical minority are trying to use the Black Lives Matter Movement and the current Cancel Culture environment to divide, conquer and hijack our Hispanic history, culture and faith. They are promoting Hispanophobia for their own political gain, a hate agenda and propagating a perpetual Victim Culture at the expense of New Mexico Hispanics. They are spreading a false narrative against Spanish colonial history and the positive contributions of the Hispano people.

Santa Fe, NM Mayor Alan Webber's sudden decision to remove the statue of the city's founder Don Diego de Vargas, without input from the local community at large, is a slap in the face to his Hispanic constituents. ZERO, None, of New Mexico's 19 Indian Pueblos asked or petitioned to have the statue removed. The same is true for the removal of statues in Alcalde, Albuquerque and across the nation.

Furthermore, Alan Webber's public announcements to remove the Civil War Memorial (Obelisk) in downtown Santa Fe in support of the radical Hate Group Three Sisters Collective is a dereliction of duty to protect public property and yet another slap in the face to Veterans, descendants of the Buffalo Soldiers and the Hispanic community.

The current attempt by some in the Santa Fe School Board to CANCEL a decades-old tradition of the Santa Fe Fiesta Court to visit local schools to Celebrate the 300+ year peace between the Spanish and Native Americans of Northern New Mexico is divisive and harms the peace and harmony enjoyed by our respective peoples. History must be taught, even debated, but never canceled!

The annual Fiestas de Santa Fe, established in 1712, is the oldest community celebration in North America. The Native American community has been an integral part of the history and traditions of the City of Santa Fe, its historic development and its economic, social, and cultural base. As such, the President of the Santa Fe Fiesta Council appoints a representative of the Native American community with all rights and privileges. This history should be celebrated and taught in our schools.

We petition Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber, Santa Fe City Councilors, the Santa Fe School Board and all civic entities to KEEP the past agreements celebrating historical milestones and Stop Attacking Our Hispanic Heritage!
