The former water treatment plant site at the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado rivers in Glenwood Springs holds historic significance and immense potential. The iconic greenhouse, currently located in West Glenwood and scheduled for demolition, has stood the test of time, bearing witness to many changes in our community. Now, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to transform this underutilized land into a vibrant botanical garden that serves not only as a lush haven of biodiversity but also as a beacon of cultural preservation and community growth.

Imagine an inclusive and educational sanctuary where families, students, botanists, and tourists can gather to learn about plant species from all over the world. A place that inspires creativity and fosters a profound connection with nature while also serving as an economic driver for our community. Other cities have seen the transformation of similar sites not just as urban beautification projects, but as platforms for economic growth through tourism and educational programs. Creating this garden would preserve open space, add value to our city, and enhance both our environmental commitment and local heritage.

The greenhouse, a Lord & Burnham gem in its own right, can be preserved in homage to its former glory, offering a glimpse into our past and a bridge to our future. Such initiatives around the world have shown that preserving historical sites, especially when coupled with new developments, undoubtedly enriches the community and strengthens local identity.

We call upon community residents, environmentalists, and community leaders to back this transformative project. Let us come together to breathe new life into a site that has served us so well. By creating this garden and preserving the historic greenhouse, we can set a precedent for sustainable urban renewal.

Join us in making this vision a reality. Sign our petition to show local officials that we value our history, embrace sustainability, and are ready to nurture a brighter future for our community through this botanical garden initiative.
