The Issue

The AA program in Airdrie Minor Hockey is a vital part of our community, yet it has been consistently overlooked, underrepresented, and mismanaged by the current AEHC committee. From a lack of transparency and accountability to unfair team selections, increased costs, inequitable training, and failure to follow governance standards, families and players have been left frustrated and unsupported. It is time to take action to restore fairness, integrity, and proper oversight to ensure every AA player has the opportunities and resources they deserve.

Reasons for This Call to Action:

Lack of Transparency and Accountability
The AEHC committee has consistently failed to provide clear communication regarding its operations, decisions, and financial management. This ongoing lack of openness has caused frustration, confusion, and a loss of trust among players, parents, and the community.

Withholding Information from AMHA
AEHC has withheld key operational and financial details from the Airdrie Minor Hockey Association (AMHA), preventing proper oversight and collaboration. This lack of cooperation undermines accountability and compromises the integrity of the organization.

Withholding Budget and Financial Details
Despite repeated requests, AEHC has not provided transparent financial statements or budget breakdowns. Families and AMHA members are left without knowledge of how registration fees, fundraising, and other funds are being allocated.

Increased Costs Without Justification
Registration and participation fees have increased significantly without clear explanation or supporting documentation. Families have a right to understand why costs are rising and how their funds are being used. Apparel package cost jumping from $5500 last year to over $12,000 this year.

Forcing Parents to Cover Additional Costs
Teams carrying fewer than 20 players are being required to make up the difference through cash calls of $2,800 per short player. This is an unfair and financially burdensome practice that places undue stress on families already paying increased fees.

Breaking Contracts with Suppliers
AEHC has reportedly terminated or failed to honor agreements with long-standing suppliers and service providers. This has disrupted operations, increased costs, and damaged community relationships.

Unfair Team Selection Practices
Children and close associates of committee members consistently make top-tier teams, raising concerns of favoritism and undermining confidence in the evaluation process. This practice discourages players who deserve fair consideration based on skill and effort.

Unequal and Subpar Training Standards
AA teams are required to participate in substandard dryland training programs, while AAA teams access superior facilities and instruction. This inequitable treatment disadvantages AA players and contradicts AEHC’s responsibility to provide fair development opportunities.

High Development Costs with Minimal Transparency
AA parents are being charged approximately $800 per player to a private development company. Most parents were unaware of this cost, and the organization has provided very little information about how the money is used or what measurable benefits players receive.

Removing Members Without AMHA Oversight
AEHC has reportedly removed committee members without a proper vote or approval from AMHA. These unilateral decisions bypass organizational governance and democratic processes, undermining the committee’s credibility.

Underrepresentation of Female AA Stream
The female AA stream has been left with very little representation within AEHC leadership, creating inequity in decision-making, program direction, and resource allocation. This lack of representation undermines inclusivity and fails to meet the needs of female players.

Failure to Follow Terms of Reference
AEHC has not adhered to its own Terms of Reference and has repeatedly avoided accountability for its actions. This demonstrates a disregard for governance, rules, and proper oversight.

No AA Representation on the AEHC Website
The AEHC website (airdrieelitehockey.com) contains almost no representation of the AA program. This omission further signals the lack of attention, transparency, and support for AA players and families.

Poor Governance and Decision-Making
The current committee structure lacks adequate checks and balances. Major decisions are made without consultation with AMHA, parents, or coaches, leading to inconsistent leadership and diminished confidence among families.

Disconnect from the Community
AEHC leadership has become increasingly detached from the values, expectations, and collaborative spirit of Airdrie’s hockey community. Returning AA teams to AMHA would restore trust, fairness, and alignment across all programs.

Decline in Player and Family Experience
Families have expressed dissatisfaction with communication, fairness, financial practices, and overall program quality. These issues negatively impact player experience and community engagement.

Restoring Trust and Integrity
Reintegrating AA teams under AMHA oversight would ensure transparent governance, equitable development opportunities, fair team selection, and fiscal responsibility — rebuilding trust with families and the community.

A Call for Renewal
Removing the current AEHC members and rebuilding the committee is necessary to create a structure based on accountability, fairness, and transparency — ensuring every player and family is treated with respect and integrity.

Airdrie Minor Hockey’s AA program deserves better. The current AEHC chair and members have failed to uphold accountability and fairness, and it’s time they be replaced. Sign today to support transparency, integrity, and positive change for our players and families.
