The Issue

West New York is a vibrant and growing community, but the constant noise and disruption from construction projects are taking a toll on residents' quality of life. With increasing construction activities throughout the town, from small renovations to major infrastructure projects, the peace and quiet that residents cherish is being disrupted at all hours of the day.

Ordinance #8/25 aims to address this issue by limiting the hours during which construction can take place within the town limits. By enforcing specific hours of operation, this ordinance seeks to ensure that residents can enjoy their community without the constant interruption of construction noise. This is not about halting development but about balancing the needs of progress with the rights of residents to peace and quiet.

There are proven benefits to implementing restricted construction hours in residential areas. These include improved mental health for residents, better sleep quality, and an overall increase in their sense of well-being. Numerous studies, such as those reported by the World Health Organization and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, highlight the adverse effects of noise pollution on health, including stress, sleep disorders, and even cardiovascular problems.

This ordinance proposes construction activities be limited to weekday hours mon-fri 8am-4pm.  Saturday 9am- 1pm.  No construction on Sundays. Such measures have been successfully implemented in other towns and cities across the country, leading to satisfied residents and thriving communities.
