As a lifelong resident of Denton, I am proud to support the naming of the new Denton ISD Elementary School after Willie and Dr. Doretha Hudspeth. This petition is personal to me because I have seen firsthand the impact that my Mom & Dad...this incredible couple has had on our community.

Willie and Dr. Doretha Hudspeth moved to Denton in the 1970s, where they worked hard to earn college degrees while raising their family. Their dedication to education did not stop there - they both went on to devote their lives to helping young people in our community and beyond.

Willie overcame learning disabilities and earned both a Bachelors & Masters degree.  He served in the United States Air Forces and on the Denton ISD School Board.  During his years as a School Board Trustee he worked tirelessly to improve our schools for all students. Meanwhile, many students credit Dr. Doretha Hudspeth with helping them graduate high school and get into college - without her guidance and support, they may not have achieved these goals.

Naming this new elementary school after Willie and Dr. Doretha Hudspeth would be a fitting tribute to their years of service and dedication to our community. It would also serve as an inspiration for future generations of students who will attend this school.
