Support Mr. K and protect his teaching license
The Issue
Mr. K is a beacon of hope for the students at Reed, consistently going above and beyond in advocating for better resources and support. He possesses a genuine commitment to his students' welfare, embodying the qualities of a remarkable educator. Mr. K's resolute willingness to stand up and request necessary aid for his students has made a tangible difference in their academic lives.
However, Mr. K now faces a dire threat to his career: the potential loss of his teaching license in Washington State. This comes as a direct result of his courage in speaking truth to power and prioritizing his students' needs over bureaucratic conformity. Such actions should be celebrated, not punished.
Tacoma School Superintendent Dr. Josh Garcia, alongside other district officials, have shown tendencies to divert resources away from schools that critically need them, such as Reed. This misallocation leaves teachers like Mr. K fighting an uphill battle to provide quality education with dwindling support. It is crucial to uphold and protect those like Mr. K, who actively challenge these inequities and strive to create a fair and nurturing educational environment.
We are calling on Dr. Garcia and the Tacoma School District to reverse any actions threatening Mr. K's teaching license. We urge them to recognize the value he brings to his students and the broader educational community. By supporting educators who advocate for equity and student success, the district can lead by example in prioritizing both student and teacher welfare.
Please sign this petition to stand in solidarity with Mr. K, affirming that we will not condone unjust measures against educators who selflessly uphold students' needs. Let us ensure that Mr. K, and teachers like him, receive the support they deserve so they can continue their vital work unimpeded.
If you are able to support in person please come to the next meeting January 8, 2026 at 6pm:
