Support Middle School Sports in Battle Ground, WA

Support Middle School Sports in Battle Ground, WA
The Issue
My daughter and son are both athletes at Battle Ground School District who have learned discipline, gained confidence, and found a sense of belonging through their participation in middle school sports. For many kids in Battle Ground, WA, sports are more than just games. They are vital experiences that teach teamwork, perseverance, and leadership, shaping them into well-rounded individuals.
Unfortunately, there are concerns about budget cuts that might jeopardize these programs in our community. Taking away sports from our middle schools would not only deprive students of these invaluable life lessons, keep them out of trouble, but also diminish their overall school experience.
Studies consistently show that students who participate in sports perform better academically, have better attendance rates, and are less likely to engage in harmful activities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supports the notion that regular physical activity builds healthy bones and muscles and reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression—benefits that are crucial during the formative middle school years.
We understand the financial challenges our district faces, but cutting middle school sports should not be the solution. Instead, we propose the exploration of alternative funding initiatives such as community partnerships, sponsorship opportunities, and fundraising events that can help sustain these critical programs without sacrificing other educational needs.
Battle Ground is known for its tight-knit community spirit and support for our youth. Let us come together once again to ensure that middle school sports remain accessible and thriving for our children.
Help us preserve middle school sports and provide a platform for our kids to excel not only in athletics but in all aspects of their lives. Please sign this petition to show your support!
