Support McKinley tenants in their fight for humane and affordable housing

Support McKinley tenants in their fight for humane and affordable housing
The Issue
Our rent is going up by as much as $270 dollars per month.
McKinley owns about 60 percent of the workforce housing in Washtenaw County.
As rent increases far outpace the increase in our wages, we are being forced to move farther and farther away from the communities where we work. We believe that teachers should have the option to lives close to their schools. Nurses should have the option to live close to the hospital.
The conditions in our apartments are abysmal. We live with mold, mildew, mice, and flooded basements and laundry rooms. Access to water is unreliable. Having our water shut off, or not having hot water, is a semi-regular occurrence.
The average monthly rent on a two-bedroom McKinley apartment in Ann Arbor is over $1500—before gas charges, water charges, sewer charges, trash charges, and an “administrative fee”.
Please sign to express support for McKinley tenants' just demands:
Our Demands:
1. No increase in rent for leases signed in 2023
2. Humane, livable conditions: More responsiveness from maintenance / Maintenance to respond within 24 hours / higher quality repairs
3. Mold remediation
4. Make provisions for those with disabilities, including by improving air quality
5. No threats of rent increases for not signing a lease early
6. No increase to late fees
7. Give a 10 day grace period to allow tenants to pay rent on time
8. Remove storage fees
9. Dismissal of pet fees
10. Free laundry, provided by McKinley
