Support local USDA slaughterhouse in Brookville, Indiana
The Issue
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
We’re reaching out to ask for your support at the upcoming Franklin County zoning hearing on May 13, 2026, at 6:00 PM. This hearing represents our second appeal as we work to secure the necessary variances to complete an existing structure on our property and bring it into operation as a USDA-inspected slaughterhouse and packing plant.
As local farmers, establishing this facility is a dream rooted in our commitment to provide high-quality, locally-sourced meat to our community. A local USDA slaughterhouse not only serves as a fulcrum that bolsters the economy by creating jobs, but it also reduces the environmental impact associated with transporting livestock over long distances. Our vision is to support sustainable practices by ensuring that animals are processed locally, which not only lowers costs but also ensures the well-being of the livestock.
Having a USDA-inspected facility locally ensures that we meet stringent federal guidelines, providing peace of mind and quality assurance to consumers. It enables us to market locally-produced meat, emphasizing safety and quality right from the source. Furthermore, this facility would enable us to expand our business and offer more direct-to-consumer options, fostering a sense of community and access to ethically-raised products.
We understand that change often comes with concerns, but we want to assure our fellow residents that we will adhere to all environmental standards to ensure our operations align with community values.
Your support and signatures would mean so much to us and our families. By coming together as a community, we can support local agriculture, nurture our environment, and ensure economic vitality. Thank you for your time and support!
Please sign this petition to show your support for our local family-run USDA slaughterhouse. Together, we can make a difference in ensuring this venture becomes a reality.
