There has been a recent effort to take away property rights of landowners in Springdale. Specifically, as it relates to the rezone of farmland on Lunde Ln. The petition states that this farmland is more important to the community than it is to the property owner, and it actually demonizes the property owners' desire for profit from homesite sales. It also erroneously characterizes farmland as some type of panacea for all environmental ills, when this is quite frankly not the case. Farmland is often worse for the land environmentally, as farmers do not rotate crops as they should, use many pesticides and spread manure that eventually runs off into our streams and contaminates ground water. The bottom line is that property owners have RIGHTS. Neighbors should realize that whatever preferences they may have about development on SOMEONE ELSE'S land should be tempered with the understanding that it ISN'T THEIRS. If they want to dictate the outcome, how about they offer to buy it at market value and then preserve it the way they see fit.
