The issue

Fueled by the unbreakable bond of love and determination, I embarked on a 40-year journey to uncover the truth about my mother’s disappearance in Melbourne, Australia, when I was just 5 years old. The journey has been long and arduous, with countless moments of hope and despair. Yet, the shocking revelation that my father, her husband, was her killer, has only strengthened my resolve for justice.

Throughout these years, I have worked tirelessly alongside the Melbourne homicide department officials, who continue to diligently investigate this haunting case. Despite their efforts, there is still much work to be done to bring closure to this tragic chapter of our lives.

Cold cases like my mother’s require extensive investigation, state-of-the-art forensic analysis, and collaborative efforts from dedicated law enforcement officers. Unfortunately, these resources require significant funding, which is why I am reaching out to compassionate individuals to garner financial support.

Your contribution will help provide the necessary resources to reignite this investigation, enabling the employment of modern forensic techniques and further collaboration with expert criminologists and detectives.

My mother was more than just a victim; she was a beloved individual whose life was unfairly taken. She deserves justice, and it is our moral obligation to uncover the truths and hold accountable those who wronged her.

Please join me in this quest for justice. By signing this petition, you lend your voice and support to my mother’s case, helping to ensure that no stone is left unturned until justice is served. Together, we can bring closure to a family still seeking answers and create a precedent for cold cases deserving of renewed attention.

Sign this petition and stand with us in pursuit of truth, justice, and ultimately, closure. Thank you for your support.

In 1986, my life changed forever.

I was a child growing up in Melbourne, Australia, when my mother Hatice Unlu suddenly went missing. She is believed to have been murdered. One day she was there — and then she was gone. I never got answers. I never got to say goodbye.

Around that same time, my father Mustafa Unlu took me out of Australia and brought me to Ankara, Turkey. I was too young to understand what was happening, only that my world was disappearing. Shortly after taking me there, he left me.

I was abandoned in a foreign country, raised without my mother and without my father. From the ages of early childhood until I was eleven, I lived with relatives who subjected me to constant verbal abuse and daily physical violence. There was no safety. No comfort. No protection.

I grew up feeling unwanted, displaced, and invisible.

Losing my mother, being taken from my home, and then being left in an abusive environment left deep scars. I have lived with overwhelming feelings of abandonment, depression, and a lifelong sense of being lost. For years, I carried the silence of what happened to me.

I was just a child trying to survive circumstances no child should ever endure.

This is not only the story of my mother’s disappearance — it is the story of a child who was taken, left behind, and forced to survive alone.
