Our PTA in Santa Margarita Elementary, finds itself in a predicament. Despite our best and continuous efforts, we have not been able to get the Atascadero Unified School District to support us in spending PTA funds on installing a FloWater bottle filling station in our school. This installation is more than just a simple amenity; it signifies a modern, healthy approach to student hydration.

Research reveals that school children who have access to clean, cold water throughout the day show improvements in cognitive function, helping them to achieve better academic results (as per American Journal of Public Health, 2016). Furthermore, it has been shown that children are much more likely to drink water at school if it is cold.

We believe the Atascadero School District should be an ally with PTA to improve hydration and learning for our students. It starts with supporting one initiative – ours. We believe in the power of parent voices, and we aim to change the way we collaborate with ATASUSD.
