The Issue

Radio Farda’s recent broadcasts have raised concerns about misleading content that may create division among Iranians. An independent evaluation will ensure that U.S. taxpayer funds are used effectively and that Iranian audiences receive trustworthy, accurate information.

We, the undersigned Iranian-Americans and supporters of freedom of information for the Iranian people, respectfully request Congressional and administrative oversight regarding the effectiveness of U.S.-funded Persian-language broadcasting, specifically Radio Farda.

The mission of Radio Farda to provide accurate, independent information to the people of Iran is vital and deserves strong support. However, there is growing concern among Iranians inside Iran and within the Iranian-American community that Radio Farda no longer reflects the trust, relevance, or audience engagement claimed in official reports.

Despite continued and significant U.S. taxpayer funding, many Iranians report that Radio Farda is rarely listened to or watched, lacks credibility, and fails to connect with the realities and expectations of its intended audience. This disconnect risks not only wasting public funds but also damaging trust between the United States and the Iranian people.

We respectfully request the following actions:

1- An independent and non biased, third-party evaluation of Radio Farda’s actual audience reach, engagement, and credibility both inside Iran and among the Iranian diaspora.

2- Public transparency regarding audience metrics, survey methodologies, and performance benchmarks.

3-  A review of whether current funding levels are justified based on verified impact.

Our request is not to silence independent media, but to ensure that U.S. taxpayer funds are used effectively, responsibly, and in a way that genuinely supports the Iranian people’s access to trusted information.
