Nuclear Age Peace Foundation EDITABLE LETTER to your Representative:

Co-Sponsor HR1334 for a Nuclear Weapon-Free World

I am writing to strongly urge you to co-sponsor HR1334, the Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Economic and Energy Conversion Act of 2011. The bill, introduced by Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), calls on the United States to negotiate an international agreement to disable and dismantle its nuclear weapons by 2020 and provides for strict control of fissile material and radioactive waste. It also calls for the use of nuclear-free energy resources.
This bill is particularly timely as Congress continues to make cuts to most programs in the federal budget. The United States currently spends over $50 billion each year on nuclear weapons and their delivery systems.
I hope to see your name among the co-sponsors of this important bill.

Letter to
U.S. House of Representatives
Greetings,

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the Delegate to the House of Representatives for Washington, DC, has introduced a bill to the House entitled the Nuclear Weapons Abolition and Economic and Energy Conversion Act of 2011.

The bill, HR1334, requires the United States to negotiate an international agreement to disable and dismantle its nuclear weapons by 2020. It calls for the funds currently used for nuclear weapons programs to be redirected towards human and infrastructure needs. The bill also requires strict control of radioactive waste and fissile material used to make nuclear weapons, and for the use of nuclear-free energy resources.

Delegate Norton said, “Today, our country has a long list of urgent domestic needs that have been put on the back burner even though millions of Americans have lost their homes and jobs. As the only nation that has used nuclear weapons in war, I urge support for my bill to help the United States lead the world in redirecting funds that would otherwise go to nuclear weapons to instead be available for urgent domestic needs.”

President Obama says that the US, as the only country to have used nuclear weapons, has a moral responsibility to act and to lead in ridding the world of them.

Please co-sponsor HR1334.
Thank you,

From: Rick Wayman, Nuclear Age Peace Foundation
