Support Harrold ISD
The Issue
Harrold ISD recently got a new superintendent. He was raised in the area and has really made some fantastic changes in the athletics program and academic curriculum. Previously Harrold no focus on athletics and many kids left the school to attend schools that had better opportunities for athletes.
After people started seeing the great changes in Harrold many students and parents felt like they either wanted to come back to Harrold or transfer for the first time to be a part of this exciting and new time at Harrold.
Let me first say that previous administration, coaches and staff that are no longer there were not at all "villans" or bad people. The school board determined it was time to go a new direction after the resignation of our previous superintendent. It was a change for everyone at our school. We decided to embrace the change and it's been a positive experience for our students to say the least. Keep in mind we are one of three ISDs in Wilbarger County Texas. Two of these districts are about 99% transfers historically.
We had kids leave Harrold and come into Harrold each year. We got quite a few new staff members and coaches after the changes were made. Naturally their kids came to Harrold. We also had some students that moved to Harrold and several that transferred to Harrold from surrounding schools. Our athletic program showed massive improvements and our volleyball team started winning. Some people in the area decided this wasn't fair.
It's been stated that our athletes are preventing area athletes from experiencing a normal high school athletic experience. Because in some sports we are getting some wins? UIL already reviewed and ruled on a complaint that two athletes from Electra were "recruited" even though their father works for Harrold and resides in the district. The girls are excluded from play and one is in her senior year. We took the loss and moved forward. We showed these girls support and have included them in everything we are able to. They were on the varsity volleyball team... but we still won.
Schools are wanting us to be eliminated from all district play. They are punishing kids to get at adults. Some former faculty and competitors are doing immature things and our kids are paying the price. 4 of our starters on volleyball have been attending Harrold, 2 their entire school lives, yet we're accused no "old" kids zeeplaying. Even one "old" freshman is a starter.
Our kids, new, returning and old are seeing nothing but hate and negativity coming at them. We just want them to see how many people support these kids. These new coaches, faculty and staff have instilled confidence, school spirit and pride in all kids at Harrold, not just athletes. After years of losing every game, playing with less players than needed and having our kids be disappointed repeatedly they need to know they are not alone.
We know so many good people at so many of the area schools know the struggle we have had and are happy to see that our kids actually have hope and such a drive to succeed. Please show our hornets your support.
