Growing up in India, football was always my passion. However, like many others, I felt the lack of opportunities and support in pursuing this sport. My parents, like countless others, were more inclined toward cricket, a sport that enjoys overwhelming support and popularity in our country. Despite my talent and dedication, I found myself without the necessary resources or platforms to nurture my love for football.

It is high time we bring significant changes to bolster grassroots football across our nation. Football is not just a sport; it is a powerful tool for developing skills, fostering teamwork, and building community spirit. By improving grassroots football in schools and villages, we can identify and nurture young talents early on, providing them with the foundation they need to excel.

To achieve this, we urgently need more quality football grounds, academies, and trained coaches nationwide. This will offer our young athletes the opportunity to train under professional guidance and develop their potential to the fullest. Moreover, we need to focus on building a stronger domestic league that emphasizes youth development and offers better opportunities for Indian players.

International exposure is also crucial for honing the skills of our budding footballers. Arranging matches against stronger national teams and clubs will allow them to learn from the best and raise their game to international standards. However, these initiatives require robust backing from fans, media, sponsors, and, importantly, governmental support.

Unlike cricket, football does not receive the same level of attention, media coverage, or funding, and this must change. The growth of football can coexist with the success of cricket if we channel some resources and energy towards nurturing this sport.
