Support GPs and working parents: overturn an unfair suspension
The Issue
I’m a working mother, a member of the public and an NHS patient.
Like many parents, I understand the impossible choices working parents are forced to make when systems are rigid and support is lacking. That is why I am deeply concerned by the five-month suspension of GP Dr Helen Eisenhauer.
In this case, no patients were harmed. Consultations had already taken place by phone. Helen acknowledged her mistake, showed insight and took responsibility. Yet she has been punished in a way that ignores the wider reality facing GPs and working parents across the NHS.
This decision sends a worrying message: that parenting under pressure is treated as misconduct, and that honesty is met with punishment rather than understanding.
I am asking the GMC and the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service to reconsider this suspension and apply a fair, proportionate approach that recognises context and humanity.
Even if the decision is not overturned, this petition exists to show Helen that she is not alone, that the public sees the pressure NHS staff are under, and that working parents deserve support, not condemnation.
Please add your name if you believe in fairness, compassion and a sustainable NHS.
