Support Genesys Nurses in Michigan: Demand Fair Staffing and Respect
The Issue
Hundreds of nurses at Henry Ford Health Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan, are on the brink of a strike—and they’re doing it not just for themselves, but for every patient who walks through the hospital doors.
These frontline caregivers, represented by Teamsters Local 332, rejected the hospital’s final contract offer because it failed to address critical concerns around safe staffing, nurse retention, and fair compensation. While Henry Ford Health touts competitive pay, the proposed contract guts key incentives, cuts premium pay, and ignores nurse-to-patient ratio protections—leaving nurses stretched too thin and patients at risk.
These nurses have stayed at the bedside through a merger, through a pandemic, and through years of financial uncertainty at the hospital. Now, they’re being told their concerns about safety and sustainability don’t warrant a seat at the table. That’s unacceptable.
Henry Ford Health has the resources and the responsibility to ensure that Genesys nurses are supported—not replaced. Their proposal to bring in contracted staff during a strike does nothing to solve the underlying issues. It’s a short-term fix that ignores the long-term wellbeing of both nurses and patients.
We urge Bob Riney, President and CEO of Henry Ford Health, and the executive leadership of the hospital system to return to the bargaining table immediately and negotiate a contract that:
- Respects nurses’ voices on staffing levels
- Restores and protects fair compensation incentives
- Invests in long-term nurse recruitment and retention
This isn’t just about dollars. It’s about dignity. It’s about protecting patients. And it’s about valuing the professionals who give everything to care for our communities.
Stand with the Genesys nurses. Tell Henry Ford Health that our caregivers deserve better.
Sign the petition if you believe safe staffing and fair pay should never be up for negotiation.
