Support foster parents rights and end systemic abuse in Omaha

The Issue

Foster parents open their hearts and homes to vulnerable children, providing a safe space and loving environment to those who need it most. Despite their dedication, many foster parents in Omaha, NE are battling against a broken system that often punishes rather than supports them. I am one of those foster parents. After welcoming several children into our home and giving them care and love, I faced unexpected hurdles that nearly tore our family apart.

False allegations can destroy the lives and reputations of foster parents. The fear of losing our license due to unfounded claims is a constant burden. When accusations prove to be baseless, the damage to our homes and hearts is already done – the system must ensure better support for vindicated parents who should not lose their right to foster due to scare tactics and revengeful claims.

Additionally, foster parents in Omaha are chronically underpaid and unexpectedly unsupported. The lack of adequate financial support and resources makes it incredibly challenging to provide the care our children deserve. Many of us have to face additional hurdles as false referrals to other agencies prevent us from working through them, limiting our ability to offer the help we’re so passionate about providing.

We need meaningful changes in the foster care system in Omaha. We call upon the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services to implement stronger oversight and fair processes for investigating allegations, ensuring that foster parents are treated with the respect and support they deserve. Better financial support and resources are essential to allow us to continue providing safe and nurturing homes for children in need.

Sign this petition to stand with foster parents, protect our rights, and demand system reforms that prioritize truth, fairness, and real support. Together, we can ensure that foster children and their families receive the care and justice they need.
