Subject: Support for the 2024-2028 Navajo Nation School Board Apportionment Plan

Dear Committee Members,

We are writing to express our strong support for the proposed 2024-2028 Navajo Nation School Board Apportionment Plan. As members of our community, we believe that this plan is essential for ensuring fair representation, effective governance, and improved educational outcomes for our students at Na’ Neelzhiin Ji’ Olta, Inc..

Here are some key reasons why we endorse this plan:

1.     Equitable Representation: The proposed plan allocates 3 local board members for NJOI. By having an independent school board, we can ensure that local challenges are addressed, every voice is heard and that decisions are made in the best interest of our students.

2.     Political Boundaries: The proposed plan allows for board members to remain in their political boundaries from within the Torreon/Starlake Chapter.

3.     Community Engagement: With a well-structured local school board, community members can actively participate in shaping education policies. Having a manageable number of board members ensures that meetings are accessible, transparent, and conducive to community input.

4.     Focus on Student Success: By optimizing board composition, we can prioritize student success. Board members can concentrate on strategic planning, curriculum development, teacher support, and student well-being. Our children deserve a high-quality education, and this plan helps us achieve that goal.

5.     Accountability and Oversight: A local board ensures accountability. Board members can closely monitor school performance, address challenges promptly, and advocate for necessary improvements. Transparent decision-making builds trust within our community.

In conclusion, we urge the Health, Education, and Human Services Committee to approve the 2024-2028 Navajo Nation School Board Apportionment Plan for Na’ Neelzhiin Ji’ Olta, Inc. Let us work together to create a stronger educational system that empowers our students, teachers, and families.

Thank you for your dedication to education and your commitment to our community’s future. We appreciate the opportunity to comment and for your time to read our letter.

Sincerely,

The Members of Torreon Community
