Support for Talisha Butler

The Issue

Dear Judge,

Talisha Butler is a great mother, sister, daughter and friend that is loved by so many. She is a mom of 3 to Eric Sylvester, 18, Mikhyd Sylvester, 15, and the last surviving parent and sole provider to 3yr old daughter, Sache Johnson. Talisha was involved in an extensive abusive relationship in which she reached out to numerous entities for help in stopping the violence and stalking. She tried everything she knew, involving going to court. He was on probation and despite the protective orders and constant 911 calls, why at no point in time was his probation revoked? Even though the jurors did not feel at that point in time she was justified, she was in mortal fear of him based on previous experiences and in her mind a dangerous situation existed. We urge you to understand that Talisha is in no way a violent or hotheaded person, but a victim of domestic abuse and constant fear. We urge you to consider her reaction to the verdict where she exhibited no hostile behavior and handled it with such grace as she did her abuser for such a significant amount of time with no relief. Talisha is beloved by her community and we reach out to you for mercy and compassion because she is a person that deserves it.
