Subject: Request for Reconsideration of Disciplinary Action with Proposed Solutions
Dear Mid-Pacific Institute Administration,
We write to you as concerned Mid-Pacific Institute community members, deeply saddened by the recent social media video involving multiple Mid Pacific Institute student-athletes. We acknowledge the gravity of their thoughtless words and actions, recognizing the pain and anger they have caused throughout our community.
While we do not seek to condone or excuse their behavior, we firmly believe that these video clips do not accurately represent the true characters of the children involved. Many have been exemplary student-athletes with no history of behavioral issues before this incident. While we recognize the need for consequences, considering each student's history, we feel that a more individualized approach may result in a more appropriate and constructive outcome.
Understanding the negative impact of this situation on Mid Pacific Institute's reputation, we see it as an opportunity for our school to demonstrate the core values of "ohana" - compassion, forgiveness, and understanding. These values are fundamental to our MPI community, and we believe that extending them to the students involved will significantly contribute to the healing process.
In light of this, we propose a comprehensive solution that involves counseling, suspension, and community service. We suggest that each student undergo mandatory counseling to address their actions, understand the impact on others, and develop future responsible behavior strategies. A reasonable suspension period could serve as a reflection and personal growth time.
Additionally, we recommend involving these students in community service initiatives related to the harm caused by their actions. This emphasizes the importance of giving back and allows them to contribute actively to the healing process within our community.
Furthermore, we propose that each student provide a written acknowledgment of the situation, expressing genuine remorse and outlining the steps they plan to take to avoid such behavior. This acknowledgment could serve as a tangible commitment to personal growth and responsibility.
We understand the complexities of the investigation and respect the need for confidentiality. However, we kindly request a reconsideration of the disciplinary actions against these students. We believe that a more rehabilitative approach as proposed, coupled with clear expectations for change, will benefit the students involved and uphold the values that make our MPI community strong.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
