Support for Inclusive Playground at East Side Park #InclusivePlayforMorris

The Issue

Purpose: To give a voice to community members who would like to support the construction of an inclusive, accessible playground at East Side Park.

Request: We as parents, grandparents, daycare providers, and other valued community members who may be unable to attend city council/park board meetings due to work, school and family obligations, would like to formally voice our support in building the handicap-accessible playground as outlined by the NextGen team. We ask that the position of this petition be given equal weight to those who can personally attend city council and park board meetings.

We, the undersigned, are petitioning for the creation of a handicap-accessible playground in the town of Morris at East Side Park. Currently, Morris lacks a playground that accommodates children with disabilities, limiting their ability to engage in play, socialization, and physical activity alongside their peers.

We are advocating for an inclusive and accessible play environment where all children, regardless of ability, can enjoy the benefits of outdoor play. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to explore, learn, and interact in a safe and supportive space that promotes physical, emotional, and social development.

In addition, we propose that this playground be built within walking or biking distance for all families in the city of Morris. A centrally located, easily accessible space will ensure that all children, regardless of their mobility challenges, can independently reach the playground, fostering greater inclusion and participation within the community. We believe the ideal location for this is East Side Park.

By supporting the construction of a handicap-accessible playground, we can ensure that children of all abilities can participate fully in the community, fostering a culture of inclusivity and respect. This playground will not only serve children with disabilities but will also benefit their families and the broader community by promoting diversity, understanding, and equal opportunity for all.

We call on the park board, city council, community members, and decision-makers to prioritize this important project, making Morris a town where every child can experience the joy of play.
