The Issue

We the undersigned members of the community are writing to express our support for Basil Davis and to acknowledge the growth, accountability and rehabilitation he has demonstrated during his incarceration.

During his time in custody, Basil has taken meaningful steps toward personal development and positive change. He has completed multiple programs including Credit 1 on 1, Budgeting, Emotional Comprehension, High Intensity Violence Prevention and numerous reentry classes. He has also earned his 30 hour OSHA certification, which prepares him for employment upon release.

Basil currently serves as a facilitator in the Conflict Resolution Unit, which was created by Superintendent Gina Clark. In this role, he helps other incarcerated individuals deescalate conflicts, reflect on their behavior and develop constructive non violent solutions through communication and mediation techniques. His work contributes to a safer and more positive environment.

In addition, Basil has authored childrens books to provide guidance and encouragement to at risk youth. He has also participated in community give back initiatives to show accountability, remorse and purpose through action.

Basil has shown through consistent actions that he is focused on growth, responsibility and positive change. He has developed skills that he plans to use to contribute to society in a meaningful way.

We believe Basil Davis is not a threat to the community and has demonstrated meaningful growth and accountability. By signing this petition, we stand together as a community in support of his rehabilitation and reintegration.
