Support Fire Survivors: Demand Fair Insurance Payouts Now

The Issue

Sign the Petition: Survivors Deserve 100% Personal Property Coverage Without an Itemized Inventory

The survivors of the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire have lost everything. Now, they face another devastating challenge—insurance companies are requiring them to painstakingly list every single lost possession before receiving full coverage for their personal property. This process is traumatic and unnecessary.

  • We call on California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to take immediate action by urging insurers to waive the inventory requirement and provide 100% personal property payouts to total loss victims, just as was done after the Woolsey Fire in 2018.

Why This Matters:

  • After the 2018 Woolsey Fire, the California Department of Insurance urged insurers to waive itemized inventories, allowing survivors to receive 75%-100% of their personal property coverage without re-living their trauma. This decision was made within 25 days of the fire, and insurers complied within 36 days—ensuring survivors received relief quickly.
  • The Palisades and Eaton Fire survivors deserve the same relief—no survivor should have to recall and document every lost item while already struggling with displacement, grief, and financial hardship.
  • Some insurers are already offering partial payouts without requiring a detailed inventory. Holding back the remaining percentage forces survivors to go through an exhausting, impractical process, delaying their recovery.

What We’re Demanding:

  • That all insurers provide 100% personal property coverage payouts to total loss victims without requiring an itemized inventory.
  • An immediate formal directive from Commissioner Lara urging insurers to comply—just as was done by the California Department of Insurance in 2018.
  • That survivors of both the Palisades and Eaton Fires receive equal treatment, ensuring a fair and swift recovery process.

Survivors can't wait. The state has set a precedent for this relief before, and we must ensure it applies now. Join us in demanding fair treatment for fire survivors—sign and share this petition today!
