Our story starts with a regrettable incident in the past - an episode of domestic violence. My partner, was responsible for this act and served his sentence. I firmly state that he has undergone a transformation and is truly changed. Despite the strides we have made individually and as a couple, the probation authorities have imposed a no-contact condition on his license, a rule that keeps us apart. It's a situation echoing with the bone-chilling silence of a now incomplete home, and the devastating consequences on our family can't be undermined.

One of the core challenges we face is a complete disregard by probation services to truly evaluate our circumstances. Their decisions feel biased, punitive, and devoid of necessary humanity. Like us, numerous families are caught in the unwavering grip of similar situations, yearning for change.

Domestic violence, perhaps one of society's costliest issues, is deeply misunderstood.  It is true that offender accountability is crucial. However, support measures for families that choose to stay together post incidents of domestic violence are equally - if not more - important.

Unfortunately, current policies rarely account for these families. It often feels as if these very systems, established to protect us, are holding us hostage. It is time to urgently address this oversight.

We call upon the probation service and concerned authorities to relook at the terms for domestic violence cases. It is about recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach is not always suitable, particularly when dealing with complex familial issues. Let's ensure that robust support and rehabilitation systems are in place and functioning efficiently.
