The Issue

Petition for Fair and Sustainable Conditions for Truck Drivers

We, a collective of truck drivers across the United States, are facing severe challenges in the trucking industry that threaten our livelihoods and safety.

Our Main Issues:

1. Rising Operational Costs: Fuel prices have skyrocketed, maintenance and repair costs have surged, and obtaining high-quality tires and safe equipment for the roads has become increasingly difficult. These issues directly endanger our safety and that of other road users.

2. Unreasonably Low Freight Rates: The current freight rates are extremely low, making it nearly impossible for many truck drivers to cover even their basic expenses. Loads paying less than $2 per mile are making it unsustainable for us to continue in this industry.

3. Lack of Transparency in Rate Determination: There is currently no proper oversight of how freight rates are determined. Those setting the rates take excessive cuts without bearing any of the risks or hardships faced by drivers on the road. Meanwhile, truckers endure harsh weather conditions and life-threatening risks for minimal pay.

4. Unfair Competition: Many truckers from Canada enter the U.S. and work for 25 to 30 days before returning, significantly reducing opportunities for American drivers. Additionally, foreign workers with temporary work visas and international licenses are taking jobs that should be going to U.S. citizens and owner-operators, making it even harder for American truck drivers to earn fair wages.

5. Exploitation and Unfair Market Practices: Since the beginning of the Biden administration, truck drivers have been struggling financially. Many of us cannot afford truck payments, rent, or basic living expenses. Those who control freight pricing take massive cuts, often leaving drivers with unsustainable wages while costs continue to rise.

Our Demand:

We call on FMC3 and other regulatory bodies to establish clear and enforceable laws ensuring fair and transparent freight rate regulations. Freight pricing must not be dictated arbitrarily by those who do not bear the risks and hardships of trucking. Instead, rates should be legally structured based on transparent and standardized criteria that ensure truckers receive fair compensation for their work.

Truck drivers are the backbone of the supply chain in the United States. We worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic, putting our lives on the line to keep this country running. Yet today, we are struggling to survive. If immediate action is not taken, many drivers will be forced to leave the industry, leading to a major crisis in logistics and supply chain stability.

By signing this petition, we urge the government to take immediate steps to address these issues and ensure that truck drivers are treated fairly and have sustainable working conditions.
