The Issue

Royal Wharf is home to thousands of residents, yet there is currently no designated outdoor BBQ area available for the community. While BBQs are rightly prohibited in communal spaces and on balconies due to fire safety concerns, this means many residents—particularly those living in apartments—have no safe or legal place to enjoy outdoor cooking with family and friends.

Rather than changing the existing fire safety rules, this petition asks the Royal Wharf Residents’ Association and estate management to consider creating a single, purpose-built BBQ area. This space could be designed with safety in mind, using fire-resistant materials, appropriate distancing from buildings, clear usage rules, and suitable waste disposal.

A designated BBQ area would provide a safe, controlled facility that encourages community engagement while respecting the safety and wellbeing of all residents.

We ask the Royal Wharf Residents’ Association and estate management to explore this proposal and consult residents on the possibility of introducing such a facility.
