Support Ethan’s Law: Protect Georgia Families from Forced Reunification Therapy
The Issue
A Call to Protect Families and Honor God's Justice: Ethan's Law
At Wind Haven Foundation, our mission is to protect, empower, and support survivors of domestic violence and their children. Our journey, both as survivors and advocates, has brought us face-to-face with systemic issues in Georgia’s family law system—issues that urgently demand reform. One of the most concerning practices we’ve encountered is forced reunification therapy. This practice, often implemented under the guise of acting in the "best interests" of the child, can invalidate the experiences of domestic violence survivors and subject children to even greater trauma.
Inspired by the boldness of the prophet Elijah, who stood for justice and the protection of the vulnerable (Isaiah 1:17), Ethan’s Law seeks to end these harmful practices and ensure that the law protects both survivors and their children. Forced reunification therapy directly contradicts God’s call to care for the oppressed and protect the innocent, as seen in scriptures like Proverbs 31:8-9.
The Injustice We Must Address
Far too often, survivors of domestic violence are forced into reunification therapy with their abusers. This practice has been widely condemned by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which notes that it often exacerbates trauma rather than healing it. The law must protect the sanctity of life and the dignity of those made in God’s image, not allow for practices that further harm them.
Our Goal
Wind Haven Foundation is gathering support for Ethan’s Law, and we need your help. By signing this petition, you are joining a powerful, collective voice that advocates for justice and reform. While Georgia does not permit direct citizen-initiated ballot measures, demonstrating substantial public support will directly influence our state legislators to take action.
Your signature represents more than just support for a bill—it’s a stand for justice, mercy, and the safety of vulnerable children and families. Together, we can ensure that Ethan’s Law becomes a reality, ending harmful practices and ensuring that survivors and their children are treated with dignity and respect.
What Ethan’s Law Seeks to Accomplish
Ethan’s Law will prevent forced reunification therapy in cases involving domestic violence, aligning Georgia’s family law with federal standards that prioritize the safety and well-being of survivors and their children. This law seeks to ensure that courts take a survivor-centered approach, prioritizing healing over harm.
A Biblical Mandate for Justice
Micah 6:8 reminds us that God requires us to "act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God." Supporting Ethan’s Law is an act of justice, a step toward showing mercy to survivors, and a humble acknowledgment of our responsibility to protect those who are most vulnerable.
How You Can Help
Your voice is crucial in this movement. By signing the petition, you’re helping to advance this important reform that will safeguard survivors, strengthen families, and ensure that God’s call to protect the oppressed is fulfilled in our legal system.
Support Our Cause
Join us in presenting Ethan’s Law to the Georgia State Legislature. By signing this petition, you’re becoming a champion for those who have endured unimaginable pain. Together, we can ensure that no child or survivor is ever forced into harm’s way again.
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.” – Proverbs 31:8
