Support Equal Parenting Rights in Massachusetts

The Issue

Introduction:“We, the undersigned, strongly believe that both fathers and mothers are equally important in a child’s life. We believe that children benefit from having both parents involved in their upbringing and that it is the right of every parent to be equally involved in their child’s life. We call on the Massachusetts Legislature to support changes to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 209C, to ensure that parents have equal parenting rights, including decision-making authority and access to their children.”

Body:“As it stands, Child Custody Laws in Massachusetts may prevent parents from having equal access to their children and decision-making authority regarding their child’s upbringing. This results in unfair situations where one parent may have a greater level of parental control than the other, which can negatively impact the child’s well-being.

Through the revision of Massachusetts General Law Chapter 209C, we call for equal parenting rights for both mothers and fathers. We firmly believe that 50/50 legal custody should be the baseline position for all cases, and that both parents should be treated equally when it comes to making decisions about their child’s upbringing.

Equal parenting rights will help to ensure that every child has the opportunity to maintain a meaningful relationship with both parents, regardless of their marital status. This will result in better outcomes for children’s academic performance, mental and physical health, and cognitive and social development.

Join us in our fight for equal parenting rights in Massachusetts. We call on the Massachusetts Legislature to take action to revise Massachusetts General Law Chapter 209C to promote equal parenting rights for both mothers and fathers.”

Conclusion:“Sign this petition and stand with us in the fight for equal parenting rights in Massachusetts. Let’s ensure that every child has a loving and supportive relationship with both parents and that parents have equal access to their children. Let’s make a difference together.
