The Issue

Stand With the Patients, Families, and Community of Hastings

We, the undersigned residents, patients, families, healthcare workers, and concerned citizens of Hastings and the surrounding Nebraska communities, are calling for transparency, stability, and continuity of cancer care services in our community.

For many local families, access to trusted oncology care is not just a convenience, it is a lifeline. Patients facing cancer diagnosis and treatment often build deep trust with their physicians and care teams over months and years of treatment. Dr. Copur's compassion for his patients cannot be replaced. Sudden disruptions to that continuity can create emotional distress, uncertainty, delayed treatment decisions, and hardship for vulnerable patients and their families.

This petition is a call for community-centered leadership and open communication regarding the future of oncology care in Hastings.

Our Requests:

We respectfully ask local Mary Lanning Healthcare leadership and decision-makers to:

Provide clear and transparent communication to the community regarding any major oncology staffing or operational changes. Take receptive input from those whose illness provides direct financial support for Mary Lanning Healthcare. There are patients who have traveled and live in campers to see Dr. Copur

Prioritize continuity of patient care during any transition period over any financial or operational changes.

Consider the voices and concerns of patients, families, and community members when making decisions that impact cancer treatment access in Hastings.

Preserve and strengthen high-quality oncology services for residents of Hastings and surrounding rural Nebraska communities.

Why This Matters:

Rural communities already face significant healthcare access challenges. Many patients in central Nebraska travel long distances for specialized treatment. Losing trusted local medical relationships or experiencing instability in care systems can place additional burdens on families already dealing with one of the hardest moments of their lives. This issue is bigger than finance, politics or personalities. It is about: patient trust, healthcare stability, continuity of care, and protecting access to quality medical treatment close to home.

A Message from the Community:

Hastings is a community that supports its healthcare workers, physicians, nurses, caregivers, and patients.

We believe community voices deserve to be heard when major healthcare decisions affect local families.

By signing this petition, we respectfully ask leadership to engage openly with the public and prioritize the long-term health and well-being of the people of Hastings and surrounding communities.
