My name is Deputy Edgar Vazquez Silva, known affectionately as “DeputyDreamer" at the Stone County Sheriff's Office. For years, I've had the privilege of serving my community with dedication and unwavering commitment, whether it's protecting citizens or being there in their times of need. I'm proud to say that I am a DACA recipient and, like so many others under the DACA program, I have dedicated my life to giving back to the country I call home.

Every day, DACA recipients like myself stand as strong pillars in our communities. We are teachers, nurses, officers, and more—offering our skills and dedication to better our society. However, despite these contributions, we still face immense uncertainties regarding our futures in the only home we have ever known.

My dream, like so many others, is simple yet monumental: to become a full-fledged Deputy Sheriff, with all rights, responsibilities, and recognition that come with it. Achieving this dream requires obtaining a green card, a step that remains out of reach for many deserving individuals due to current immigration policies. Newly proposed legislations could pave the way for achieving this dream, but they need fearless champions and advocates.

Our stories, our hopes, and our service are too often overlooked. It's time for our leaders to recognize the unique contributions of DACA recipients and take concrete steps to provide a pathway to permanent residency. President Biden, I humbly ask for your support, not just for me but for all dreamers, to make this miracle a reality at last.
