Support dementia care with a shoes-off day at work

The Issue

My great aunt is currently in the hospital, grappling with the debilitating effects of dementia. Witnessing her struggle with constant hallucinations and confusion has been heart-wrenching for our family. It's a stark reminder of the daily realities faced by many dementia patients and their loved ones. Dementia not only affects those diagnosed but also casts a profound impact on families and caregivers who strive to provide the best possible care while navigating emotional and financial challenges.

I am initiating this petition with the aim of raising vital funds for dementia care facilities in our community. By organizing a ‘Shoes-Off Day’ at workplaces, we can collectively make a significant difference. Participating employees will be encouraged to remove their shoes for a day and donate to dementia charities, fostering awareness while making workplaces a symbol of empathy and solidarity.

Research shows that there are approximately 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and this number is expected to skyrocket to over 1 million by 2025. The financial strain on healthcare systems and families is immense, but community-driven initiatives can offer crucial support. Every pound raised can help provide better care facilities, fund research for better treatment, and offer much-needed resources for caregivers.

Dementia is a growing public health challenge, and as a community, we need to step up to support those affected. A simple act of compassion, like taking shoes off at work for a day, can spark conversations, increase understanding, and lead to impactful fundraising. Let's make our workplaces a hub of support and charity, bringing change through collective effort.

Join me in taking a step towards making a difference in the lives of dementia patients and their families. Sign this petition to bring the ‘Shoes-Off Day’ initiative to your workplace and help us raise money for vital dementia care. Together, we can create a future where dementia care is properly funded and more accessible for everyone in need. Please sign and share this petition to encourage others to participate.
