Defending Democratic Representation, Free Expression & Human Rights in Milton

We, the undersigned residents of Milton and the Halton Region, express our strong support for Councillor Sameera Ali following the events of the November 3, 2025 Milton Town Council meeting.

During that meeting, Councillor Ali introduced a motion regarding humanitarian concerns in global conflict. While foreign policy falls outside strict municipal jurisdiction, local governments have a long, respected tradition of expressing moral positions on global issues that affect their communities, including apartheid, Ukraine, international human rights, and global peace efforts.

Councillor Ali’s motion reflected the voices of many Milton residents who sought acknowledgment of a humanitarian crisis. Advocating for peace, dignity, and human rights is not only appropriate for an elected representative - it is a cornerstone of public service.

🛑 Responding to Mischaracterizations & Public Hostility

We are deeply concerned that Councillor Ali has been subjected to unfair attacks, misrepresentation, and targeted pressure, including calls for her resignation that we believe are disproportionate and politically motivated.

We affirm:
