The Issue

For decades, East Austin families have gathered on these CAYL fields to teach our children teamwork, discipline, and pride.

The C.A.Y.L. League isn’t just a ball club. It’s a safe haven, a mentorship network, and one of the few affordable outlets where our kids can belong, compete, and thrive.  These fields are where our abuelos cheered, our parents coached, and our kids now play. This is our cultural legacy — built long before East Austin was trendy, when the city invested little but the community gave everything.

After years of partnership, the City of Austin has chosen not to renew CAYL’s contract, putting the current fall baseball and softball season at risk. Without access to fields, hundreds of players and families will see their season—and the league’s future—come to an abrupt halt.

This decision:

  • Strips opportunity from hundreds of children in working-class and historically Latino neighborhoods.
  • Undermines decades of community volunteerism, mentorship, and tradition.
  • Continues a painful pattern of displacement and erasure — first our homes, now our home plate.

We are calling on OUR CAYL community, supporters, and city leaders to help ensure our children can finish this fall season and that CAYL remains in its current location, in the heart of the community it serves.

Your signature represents more than support — it’s a stand for equity, opportunity, and the belief that every child deserves a place to play, learn, and grow.  Please sign this petition to help keep Central Austin Youth League open, in the same location, and community-driven.
